STUDY ABROAD

Georgia Tech undergraduate students from all majors have the opportunity to attend summer programs and/or semester-long programs abroad.
Summer Study Abroad
Undergraduate students may choose from two media-related summer programs in Europe: the Italian Film Studies program in Gorizia, Italy, and the Danish Media and Culture program in Arhus, Denmark.
The Italian Film Studies program allows students to study film history, theory, and production in a faculty-led visit to northeastern Italy. Students earn six hours of credit that may be directly applied to Science, Technology and Culture (STAC) degree requirements or Computational Media (CM) School of Literature, Communication and Culture (LCC) specialty or elective courses. Three-day weekends provide an opportunity for students to visit nearby Venice, Florence, Rome, or Vienna (with easy trains or flights to other European destinations).
The Danish Media and Culture program gives students a chance to study Danish social systems and film as they live and learn in Denmark. This six-week program takes place in Aarhus, known as the "City of Education" because it is such a popular destination for European students. Courses taken in this program may be applied to the STAC degree requirements or CM LCC specialty or elective requirements. Students from other majors may use the courses for humanities or free electives. Recently approved by Office of International Education, the summer plan of Danish Media and Culture is an extension of the semester-long Danish Media and Culture exchange program.
CM students have also traditionally participated in the Barcelona Summer Study Abroad program, to complete requirements for the CS side of the degree. This 10-week program offers CS courses as well as classes in Architecture and Spanish.
Semester-long Programs
Georgia Tech undergraduate students may choose to stay a semester or a year in Denmark, Sweden, or any of Georgia Tech`s other study abroad options.
Starting fall 2009, CM majors may participate in LCC`s newest exchange program with the Copenhagen Institute of Technology. Based in Denmark`s dynamic capital, this exchange exposes student to a variety of classes in Digital Media in a semester-long or year-long stay. All courses are taught in English in a program modeled on Georgia Tech`s CM degree. Students may pursue post-study internships to extend their time in Denmark if they choose.
The semester-long Danish Media and Culture program at the University of Aarhus in Aarhus, Denmark, is open to all majors; students may choose to satisfy a number of core curriculum requirements in English-language classes, including lab sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
Students may also participate in a more humanities-oriented program at the Blekinge Tekniska Hogskola (BTH) in Karlskrona, Sweden. BTH offers a variety of classes, in English, modeled on LCC`s studio and media studies courses. Classes apply directly to the LCC requirements for the STAC or CM degree. In Southeastern Sweden, Karlskrona features a mild climate with temperatures about five degrees cooler than Atlanta in the winter. It is a short train ride to Copenhagen and cheap flights to other European destinations.
International Plan
LCC undergraduate students may choose to complete the 9 hours of necessary coursework, satisfy the requirements of a language track, and study or work abroad for a total of 26 weeks to earn the International Plan designation on their diploma. This elite program prepares students to be more effective global citizens.
