How you ever wanted to see what kind of digg commenter you are? Download Commentia below.

UPDATE: Sadly, two days after releasing this app, digg made major updates to the site, causing Commentia to not work properly. Specifically, the topics are unidentifyable and the app simply tallies the total score, leaving you naked. Weak. I can fix it, but that would require time on my part, which I don't really have. At least check out the screens below, and the random outfit applet to marvel at what once was.

How it works

After typing in a user name and hitting enter, the program grabs the last 40 stories you commented on (thanks to digg's handy XML feed), and tears through them, tallying up your thumbs up/down and totalling all the comments you made on those stories. Then, based on your scores in the seven categories, your little avatar is assigned a personality and setting. If you want to spoil the fun, look at the explanation of the algorithm.

Why it's cool

Besides the epic html parsing that's going on (the digg api is no help on this one), there are all kinds of uses for this sweet app. First you could just run it in the background, it will constantly update itself with whatever activity you are doing on digg, and you can watch it change on the fly. You can start commenting like crazy in an attempt to reach the epic scores of kevin rose, or try to change your outfit by commenting on different types of stories. If you want that snazzy business suit, you best know your politics! You can always spy on other's avatars by typing in their names instead, and try to go on digg to sabotage their comments so they lose their precious YouTube shirt. Oh snap! digitalgopher gets pwned in science, use it against him on the 'boards. If you think your computer can handle it, try opening two instances of the program for a side by side comparison. The possibilities are endless!

Just a disclaimer here: this is a REALLY early build, and things are not optimized. Plus it runs in java. Don't expect runs this on grandpas old 333. Your probly going to need a decent system with a gig of ram or more to run this beast. I've only tested it on my windows XP 2.6Gz with 1.5 GB ram, but it sems to run smoothly. God help you with the Mac version; it is completely untested. Also make sure you read the installation instructions.
